An outdoor unit collects heat from the outside air and a slim indoor unit releases it into the room. In summer the process runs in reverse.
How air-to-air heating works

The outdoor unit draws in outside air, even on cold winter days.

The heat pump takes the heat energy out of that air.

A compressor raises the temperature, and the heat travels indoors through slim pipes.

The indoor unit releases warm, comfortable air into your room.
In summer the same system works in reverse: it takes heat out of your room and releases it outside.

Frequently asked questions
Is an air-to-air heat pump the same as air conditioning?
It works on the same principle, but it is designed as an efficient heating system first. In winter it heats your home; in summer the same unit can cool it, just like air conditioning.
Will it keep my home warm in a Scottish winter?
Yes. Rotenso air-to-air heat pumps keep heating at outdoor temperatures down to −20 °C, and selected systems down to −30 °C. At the survey we look at your home and recommend a system to suit it.
Can one system heat several rooms?
Yes. A multisplit system connects one outdoor unit to several indoor units, so each room has its own unit and its own temperature. Teta White and Teta Mirror connect to a Rotenso Hiro N-Line outdoor unit, Revio and Mirai to a Hiro S-Line. The exact configuration for your home is confirmed with Rotenso.
Does it heat my hot water or use my radiators?
No. An air-to-air heat pump heats and cools the air in your rooms directly through its indoor units. It does not use radiators and does not heat water, so your hot water stays as it is.
